Three Arrested Over 1994 UVF Murders

Three men have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of two Catholic workmen almost 20 years ago.

In May 1994, Gary Convie, 24, and 44-year-old Eamon Fox were sitting in their car at a building site in North Queen Street, Belfast, when a gunman opened fire.

The two men were shot dead by the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF).

It is understood the gunman used a submachine gun in the attack.

The suspects, aged 43, 52 and 65, were arrested on Tuesday morning in Templepatrick, Newtownabbey and Antrim.

The arrests were made as part of Operation Stafford, an investigation into a series of murders and other serious crimes carried out by the UVF in north Belfast.

Earlier this year, a man appeared in court charged in connection with the murder. He is currently on bail. Another man previously convicted in connection with the murders has since died.
