£42m Invested In NI Screen Industries
£42.8m is to be invested in the development of Northern Ireland's film, TV and digital industries through a new strategy launched this week by Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster.
'Opening Doors' will see the money invested across a range of priority areas over the next four years. Full implementation of the strategy is expected to leverage a direct spend of £194m in the Northern Ireland economy.
Speaking at the launch event, Arlene Foster said: "We have come a long way over the past ten years, from a Creative Industries sector with little or no international profile to one where many of our leading production companies are focused on external or export markets.
"Our significant success in securing inward investment activity from some of the world’s major production companies such as Universal, Playtone and HBO has leveraged significant economic benefits for the region. Our indigenous sector has also enjoyed considerable success, with companies such as Sixteen South, Waddell Media, Dog Ears, Wild Rover and 360 Production leading the charge to bring content developed and produced in Northern Ireland to a global market."
Richard Williams, CEO, Northern Ireland Screen: "This is a very big day for the screen industry in Northern Ireland. Opening Doors is about maximising the opportunities in the screen industries here. With the support provided by the Minister, we are confident that the film, television drama, factual television, animation and gaming sectors will all grow significantly in the next few years."
Invest Northern Ireland will support the implementation of the strategy with part funding by the European Regional Development Fund.

'Significant Quantity' Of Tablets Discovered On Co Down Beach
The PSNI have issued a warning following the discovery of a "significant quantity" of tablets of County Down's Cloughey beach on the afternoon of Wednesday, 03 April. Officers responded to reports that large quantity of tablets in plastic blister packs had been found on the beach.

As cameras start to roll in Belfast on HBO's Game of Thrones, a TV series which is said to be one of the largest ever to shoot in Europe, Northern Ireland Screen have released its latest annual report for the year 2009-2010. The report encapsulates the agency's achievements, cultural highlights and educational successes of the past 12 months.

Boomer Industries to create jobs in Lisburn
Following a relocation to new premises in Lisburn, Boomer Industries has announced that the company expects to create around 13 new jobs, raising the total number of company employees to 53.
