DSD Announce Funding For Completion Of Whistle Project

Funding of over £200,000 has been secured for the Whistle Project in Londonderry.

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced that funding of £204,960 has been allocated for the building of a single storey extension, refurbishment of the existing premises and completion a state of the art computer suite at the Waterside project.

Minister McCausland said: "The additional funding will enable The Whistle Project to expand current service delivery and to develop and deliver additional programmes and activities including Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Parenting Courses and ICT.

"The project will provide the organisation with an enhanced fit for purpose community facility, bringing not only benefits to those who use the facility but also creating a feel good factor for those who work there.

"This renewed and refreshed facility will also provide opportunities for volunteering and for residents to become socially included in tackling issues which affect their community and in particular the children of this area."

Teresa Dunlop, Project Co-ordinator with The Whistle Project, said: "The Whistle Project would like to take this opportunity to thank the Department for their commitment of financial support which will enable us to expand our current premises at Campion Court.

"This very welcome £204,960 will enable us to provide the young people of this area with a place that they can finally call their own and will enable us to enhance the programmes and activities already being implemented within our community. We look forward to working in our newly refurbished premises."
