Housing Market Recovery Continues

Over 4,800 residential properties have been sold in Northern Ireland during the third quarter of 2014, indicating a 25% increase on the number sold in the same quarter of 2013.

Finance Minister Simon Hamilton has said this is evidence of the continued recovery of the Northern Ireland housing market.

The figures have been released in the latest Northern Ireland Residential Property Price Index (NI RPPI), produced by the Department of Finance and Personnel’s Land & Property Services (LPS) in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency (NISRA).

Commenting on the report, Mr Hamilton said: "Residential property prices have increased by 4% from the previous quarter. This steady upward trend is a further indication that the property market here is stabilising. Notably, the report shows that the increase applies in both urban and rural areas. This positive change tells us that the market right across Northern Ireland is continuing to show signs of recovery.

"Today's report shows further encouraging signs that the housing market in NI is a much more normalised picture. This is particularly good news for first time purchasers and those who are seeking to move up and secure value for money in a much more stable market."
