County Down Road Crash Victim Named

The 19-year-old victim of a car crash in County Down has been named.

Stephen Sweeney was driving a silver Volkswagen Passat that left the Ballagh Road, between Newcastle and Annalong, just after 01:00 in the early hours of Friday morning.

Mr Sweeney is reported to have been from the Newcastle area. Only one car was involved in the crash.

Police said they are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was travelling on the Ballagh Road at around one o'clock in the morning to come forward.

The A2 between Newcastle and Annalong was closed for a time but has since been re-opened.
