McParland Murder - Woman Released

A woman has been released after being arrested by detectives investigating the murder of Sean McParland in north Belfast in February 1994.

The 41-year-old woman was arrested on the morning of Monday 22 September, and taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim Police Station for questioning.

55-year-old Mr McParland was shot on Skegoniel Avenue in north Belfast on 17 February thirty years ago while babysitting. He died a week later.

The arrest was part of Operation Stafford, an investigation into a series of murders and other serious crimes by the UVF in north Belfast.

The woman was later released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.

Police Appeal For Missing Marlene Doyle
Police have issued an appeal to help trace missing woman Marlene Doyle. The 27-year-old, who is originally from Warwickshire in England, is believed to be in the Coleraine or North West area. She went missing from Warwickshire on Thursday, 29 September. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Pensioner 'badly shaken' after arson attack
An elderly woman has been described by police as "badly shaken up" after an arson attempt was made on her house in the early hours of this morning. Several hundred pounds worth of damage was caused to the property at Conneywarren Lane, in Ballysillan, north Belfast. It is not yet known how the fire was started.

Four injured in crash
Four people have been injured following an accident in North Belfast at around 1am this morning. Eight people are believed to have been travelling in the Ford Focus, which crashed on the Woodvale Road, close to the Woodvale Park area of the city. The driver was later arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit.
