'Yellow' Rain Warning Issued

A 'yellow' weather warning of heavy rain for Northern Ireland has been issued by the UK Met Office.

The Met Office said bands of rain would move east across Northern Ireland during Thursday and early Friday.

It said some of the rain will be heavy, particularly during Thursday afternoon and also for the first part of Friday in the east.

The public has been warned there could be a risk of localised flooding.

The warning is valid from midday on Thursday through to 08:00 on Friday morning.

"An active frontal system will move east across Northern Ireland during Thursday and early Friday morning," a statement from the Chief Forecaster said.

"Rainfall totals, especially in the east, may reach 25-50 mm in some locations, particularly over high ground. This will also include some short spells of heavy rain which could produce 20 mm within a few hours at low levels too, notably later Thursday afternoon and again early Friday morning."
