SDLP delegation meets Education Minister

Education Minister, Jane Kennedy has met an SDLP delegation to discuss a number of educational issues at Stormont today.

Tommy Gallagher, Alban Maginness, John Fee and Nuala O’Neill discussed the Review of Post-Primary Education, Special Needs Education and School Transport among other things.

Speaking after the meeting, the Minister said: “This was a useful and constructive meeting and I welcomed the opportunity to hear the SDLP’s views on a range of educational issues, including the post-primary review. Any decision on future post-primary arrangements will not be taken until I have considered the Working Group’s advice.”

Today's talks followed discussions last week between the Minister and a delegation from the Ulster Unionist Party.

That delegation also expressed its continuing concerns over post primary education.

UUP Education spokesmen Danny Kennedy and Ken Robinson also pressed the minister on topics such as academic selection and plans for a common curriculum.
