Man Attacked In Coleraine

A man has been attacked by four masked men in Coleraine, Co L'Derry.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was shot in the arms and legs, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The victim tried to escape from the house on Maple Drive where he was attacked, however he was chased by the thugs who shot him again outside the property.

He is currently being treated in hospital.

Two other men who were in the house when the assault occurred were not injured.

SDLP East Derry MLA John Dallat said: "These home invaders showed no mercy as they carried out their brutal assault. Having not satisfied their bloodlust by grievously injuring the victim, they pursued him to inflict further damage as he tried to flee.

"This is the twelfth such attack in the Coleraine/Ballymoney area clearly carried out by remnants of the UDA who are in disarray and are desperately trying to establish their authority on this community through fear.

"Such attacks can only be treated as attempted murder and it is unacceptable that these horrific crimes have become the norm in our society."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
