Meningitis B Vaccine Approved

Health Minister Jeremy Hunt has announced that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is to provide a meningitis B vaccines for all babies in the UK.

The deal was announced after months of negotiations about the price of the drug.

DUP Upper Bann MP David Simpson welcomed the news.

He said: "I am delighted that the vaccine will be made available for all UK babies following this announcement. I have been to the fore in lobbying Minister Hunt at Westminster and am delighted that the vaccine will be rolled out this year. This will ease the worries of parents. The standoff over price was totally unacceptable when children were at risk from this dreaded disease.

I met with Minister Wells last week. He gave his personal commitment that upon approval from Westminster his Department were ready and waiting to implement as quickly as possible."
