Police Appeal Following Spate Of Burglaries In Belfast

Police are appealing for information following a spate of burglaries in the Belfast area in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, 27 May.

At around 2am police received a report that a man who lives in the Fitzroy Avenue area woke to find an unknown male in his room. There was also a second unknown male in the house. When challenged they left the property.

At approximately 2.20am police received a report that three unknown men had 'kicked' in the door of a house in the Rugby Avenue area. One of the men was brandishing a knife. When the male occupant challenged them he was assaulted, receiving injuries to his face. It is believed one of the men was also brandishing a knife.

At approximately 2.30am police received a report that three men had entered a house in the Palestine Street area and when challenged by the male occupants they left, only to return a short time later. They hammered on the door, threatening the occupants. When one of the occupants opened the door the men tried to force their way into the property. It is believed that one of these men was brandishing a knife.

The men did not gain entry and left the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Suspect Charged Over Maghera Robbery
A man has been charged after a filling station was robbed in Co Londonderry. The theft happened on 5 February in Maghera. Police said a number of masked men armed with handguns were involved in the incident. The 48-year-old male has been charged with robbery and firearms offences.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of Brian McIlhagga
A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Brian McIlhagga. A gang of masked men dragged the 42-year-old victim from a house in the Riverview Park area in Ballymoney on 05 January 2015. He was beaten and shot in a paramilitary-style attack.

Six Arrested In Dissident Investigation
Six people have been arrested by detectives investigating dissident republican activity. The arrests were made on Tuesday in the Dunmurry and west Belfast area following a number of searches. Police said five men, aged between 31 and 58, and a 32-year-old woman had been arrested.

Two Men Attacked With Baseball Bats In Co Antrim
Two 18-year-old men have been attacked with baseball bats in Whitehead, Co Antrim. The victims were closing premises in the Balmoral Avenue area at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, 04 October when three men assaulted them. Both men were treated in hospital for their injuries. One has been discharged, and the other remains in hospital.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
