Man Arrested Following Police Chase In Lisburn

A man has been arrested following a police chase in Lisburn, Co Antrim.

The pursuit started on the Brokerstown Road on Monday at around 4.30pm.

Police tried to stop the silver Vauxhall Vectra after it was seen driving erratically.

However, the car took off at speed onto the Knockmore Road and caused other drivers to swerve out of its way.

The vehicle then crashed into a silver Peugeout at the junction of Knockmore Road and Windermere Avenue.

The driver of the Vectra was arrested by the police a short time later.

He was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including dangerous driving, no insurance and failing to stop, report and remain at the scene of a collision and possession of a class B drug.

He is currently being detained by the police.

Police thanked the public for their assistance and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
