Man Attacks Staff Member During Armed Robbery In South Belfast

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery in south Belfast.

The incident happened at a fast food restaurant in the Botanic Avenue area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A man hit a female member of staff with a hammer before making off with a sum of money and another staff member's mobile phone.

The victim, a woman aged in her 20s, suffered bruising to her side. The other staff member, also a woman in her 20s, was not injured in the incident.

The man is described as being of medium build, approximately 5'6" tall and he was wearing a balaclava, a light blue t-shirt and dark jeans.

Detective Sergeant Dolores Black said: "I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

A man armed with a knife has robbed a shop in County Down. The incident happened in the Central Promenade area of Newcastle at around 8.25pm on Tuesday. The man made off with a sum of money and a staff member's mobile phone.

Man Armed With Hurley Bat Robs Bar In Dunmurry
Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery at a bar in the Dunmurry area in the early hours of Monday morning. The incident occurred at premises on the Glenburn Road at approximately 12.30am. A masked man, armed with a hurley bat, threatened and demanded money from a female staff member. He made off with a sum of cash.

The 51-year-old was arrested following a PSNI operation which also involved police in Sussex and Home Office Immigration officials in London on Monday, 19 February. The suspect was detained and a sum of cash was also seized.

Four people have been injured on a flight from Birmingham to Belfast following an emergency during the flight. The Flybe crew radioed on their way to Belfast at 13.30pm today that they had an emergency. According to early reports the plane had encountered severe and unexpected movement.
