Disabled Pensioner Assaulted In Newry

A disabled pensioner is being treated in hospital after three men broke into his home and assaulted him in Newry.

The attack happened in the Clogharevan Park area at around 2.40am on Monday.

The three men entered the victim's bedroom and attacked him with a sharp implement. He received several wounds to his body and is currently in hospital.

It is also believed a sum of money was stolen.

Detective Inspector Harry Colgan said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact Detectives at Newry on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Two Men Attacked With Baseball Bats In Co Antrim
Two 18-year-old men have been attacked with baseball bats in Whitehead, Co Antrim. The victims were closing premises in the Balmoral Avenue area at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, 04 October when three men assaulted them. Both men were treated in hospital for their injuries. One has been discharged, and the other remains in hospital.

Three Arrested In Dissident Investigation
Three men have been arrested in relation to dissident republican terrorist activity. Two men, aged 41 and 54, were detained in the Newry area, while a 44-year-old man was arrested in the south Armagh area on Monday morning (15 December). All three have been taken to Antrim's Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
