Kevin McGuigan Murder: Senior Republican Arrested

Police have arrested senior republican Bobby Storey along with two other men in connection with the murder of Kevin McGuigan.

The three men, aged 45, 58 and 59, were arrested in north and west Belfast on Wednesday morning.

Mr McGuigan was shot outside his home in east Belfast in August and police claim members of the Provisional IRA were involved in the fatal shooting.

Eddie Copeland and Brian Gillen are also believed to have been arrested. They are both well-known republicans.

Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness said he was "surprised" to learn about the arrest.

Mr McGuinness said: "Bobby Storey is a valued member of Sinn Féin's core leadership.

"He has played a leading role in the development of Sinn Féin’s peace strategy and is a long standing and loyal supporter, defender and advocate of the peace and political processes.

"We look forward with confidence to his early release."
