Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A man has been convicted of benefit fraud at Newtownards Magistrates' Court.

George Allen, 31, of Regency Park, claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance totalling £2,703 while failing to declare employment. He was given a 12 month conditional discharge.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Watermains Improvement Work Starts In Annaclone

NI Water and its contractor Lagan Construction have started essential watermains improvement work in Annaclone, Co Down.

The work on Sentry Box Road is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

The £130,000 investment will be used to upgrade water mains and will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the area.

The investment is part of an overall £2,600,000 investment in the wider Lisburn, Dromore, Banbridge and Newry areas.

The work will involve the installation of 1600 metres of new water main from the Ballynanny Road junction to replace the existing main along Sentry Box Road.

Access to all properties adjacent to the works will be maintained at all times, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure the safe passage of road users and pedestrians.

Funeral Held For Disappeared Victim Seamus Wright

The funeral of one of the Disappeared, Seamus Wright, has taken place in Belfast today, Tuesday.

Mourners gathered at St Agnes' Church in Andersonstown where Father Brendan Callahan held a requiem mass.

The 25-year-old was killed along with Kevin McKee, 17, by the Provisional IRA in 1972.

Their bodies were discovered in a bog in the Republic of Ireland in June.

Two Road Improvement Schemes For Newcastle
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has said work is to commence next week on two road improvement schemes in Newcastle, Co Down. The schemes will total £324,000. Work on a £270,000 resurfacing scheme on the U6208 Shimna Road, Newcastle, and a £54,000 resurfacing scheme on Park Avenue, Newcastle, is to start on Monday 13 January 2014.

Water Improvement Roadworks For Summer
NI Water has announced upgrading programmes to systems in Swatragh, Omagh and east Belfast. The body will pour £1.6m into improving wastewater treatment in the Swatragh village area of county Londonderry over the next year.
