UN World Space Week Launches In NI

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry has launched United Nations World Space Week in Northern Ireland at a reception at the Ulster Museum.

The guest of honour was Colonel Greg H Johnson, a former NASA astronaut, who piloted STS-134, the final flight of the space shuttle Endeavour. World Space Week, which will run from 04 - 10 October, is the largest worldwide public celebration of space and aims to promote the importance of space technology and STEM to our economy and society.

Minister Farry said: "Space Week is an ideal opportunity for us to reach out to young people to show what is open to them and that careers in this exciting industry are a real possibility in Northern Ireland, if you have the right skills and knowledge to prepare you for it. We need to fire their imaginations to show that science and technology is at the forefront of how we will live our lives in the future."
