Belfast Musician Scoops Award From The Paul Hamlyn Foundation

Belfast musician Brian Irvine has received a prestigious award from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

Mr Irvine, a musician, composer and conductor, is one of eight artists to have been awarded £50,000 by the Foundation to help them develop and progress their output.

Arts Minister Carál Ní Chuilín congratulated Mr Irvine and told him to keep up the good work.

She said: "In his career, Brian has added his own unique twist to what is traditionally known as classical music, pushing the boundaries and bringing it to new audiences through his work with the Ulster Orchestra and in initiatives like the 2012 Cultural Olympiad that complemented the London Games.

"This award from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation is an indication of the high esteem Brian is held in beyond these shores. It will assist him in developing his forthcoming projects and bringing them to communities and people of all backgrounds."
