Three Teens Arrested In Connection With West Belfast Murder

Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man in west Belfast.

The body of Christopher Meli, 20, was discovered in the Glasvey Close area at around 1am on Saturday.

The three youths, two aged 18 and one aged 16, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and are currently in police custody.

Police are also investigating a serious assault on another young man who was in the company of the Mr Meli. He was taken to hospital to be treated, however he has since been discharged.

Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann said: "I have spoken to the local PSNI and they tell me they are treating it as a violent death.

"My thoughts and prayers are with this young man's family at this time and I would appeal to anyone with information to bring it forward to the PSNI."

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Talbot said: "I would like to extend my sympathy to the family of this young man and thank the wider community for their support during our investigation to date.

"A post mortem will be carried out in due course, however we believe at this stage that he died from the injuries he received following this attack.

"Enquiries are very much ongoing and I am asking witnesses or anyone who believes they can assist in the investigation in any way to contact Detectives on the non-emergency number 101.

"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
