New Changes Made To The Way Taxis Are Licensed
New changes are being made to the way taxis are licensed.
The changes, which offer more flexibility and choice for customers, will come into effect on 31 May this year.
The changes include: four new classes of Taxi Licence, A, B, C, and D which will replace the existing PSV licence categories; a new two mile Belfast Zone - an area of roughly 2 miles radius from Belfast City Centre; more flexibility and choice for consumers and a better service for people with disabilities.
Class A and B taxis will need taximeters and printers and a new Fare Card must be displayed.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said: "In effect, these changes will mean that people in the North will get a much better taxi service. My Department will now write to all taxi drivers and operators to advise them of the changes which will be introduced as part of the implementation of the Taxis Act (Northern Ireland) 2008."
