Blue Plaque Unveiled In Honour Of Thomas Sinclair

A blue plaque has been unveiled in honour of the achievements of Ulster Covenant author, Thomas Sinclair.

The First Minister Arlene Foster, in association with the Ulster Scots Agency, unveiled the plaque as part of a series of projects being launched at an event at Sinclair Seaman's Church.

Minister Foster said: "It is a privilege to honour the life of this remarkable man.

"I commend the work of the Ulster Scots Agency, the Ulster History Circle and all the organisations involved for their efforts to commemorate Thomas Sinclair's unquestionable influence on Northern Ireland's history.

"As author of the Ulster Covenant in 1912, during what was a turbulent time in Northern Ireland's creation, Thomas Sinclair undoubtedly created a legacy that lives on today.

"He will long be remembered for his important contribution to business, politics and academia at every level at that time.

"I am delighted to be joined here today with descendants of Thomas Sinclair and to unveil this most deserved plaque in his memory."

The plaque was erected on the side of the Sinclair Seaman's Church which was built by Thomas Sinclair's uncle, John Sinclair, in 1857.
