Library Opening Hours Could Be Cut Under New Plans
Opening hours at the 14 busiest libraries in Northern Ireland could be cut under new proposals announced by Libraries NI.
A public consultation is to be held until 17 July to identify the most suitable pattern of hours in the libraries. It is planned that the opening hours will be reduced from 54 and 50 hours to 45 hours accordingly.
The libraries that will be affected are: Ballymena Central, Bangor Carnegie, Belfast Central, Carrickfergus, Coleraine, Derry Central, Dungannon, Enniskillen, Finaghy, Glengormley, Lisburn City, Lurgan, Newry City and Omagh.
Chief Executive of Libraries NI, Irene Knox, said: "This is not the ideal situation however we must plan for and consider our budget for the year ahead. We will continue to liaise with staff, customers and stakeholders throughout this process and we will listen to any concerns raised.
"If our circumstances change, and additional funding is made available, then it will be used to minimise the reductions in library opening hours."

'Plan Ahead' For St Patrick's Day Events This Weekend
Belfast City Council has outlined traffic and travel arrangements ahead of this Sunday's St Patrick's Day event in Belfast. A number of traffic diversions will be in place in and around Belfast city centre. Visitors and participants are advised to plan their journey in advance and leave extra time to travel to and from the city centre.
