Six Off-Duty Police Officers Arrested After Altercation In Portstewart

Six off-duty police officers have been arrested following an altercation outside licensed premises in Portstewart.

In total eight people were arrested in connection with the incident which happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 01 June.

Two of the people involved were foreign nationals and police are investigating a hate crime element.

Three people were treated for minor injuries in hospital.

All eight have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Chief Superintendent Garry Eaton said: "This investigation is still at the early stages and we are following a number of lines of enquiry including reviewing CCTV footage and identifying and speaking to witnesses.

"I would encourage anyone who was in the area of Church Pass in Portstewart during the early hours of Wednesday and witnessed the altercation to contact detectives in Coleraine. 

“Discipline Branch is also conducting an internal investigation and therefore it would not be appropriate for me to comment further however what I can say is that the Police Service of Northern Ireland expects its officers and staff to behave professionally, ethically and with the utmost integrity at all times."

Micheal McGibbon Murder: Man And Woman Arrested
Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Michael McGibbon in north Belfast. Mr McGibbon, 33, was shot a number of times in an alleyway in the Ardoyne area on Friday, 15 April. He was taken to hospital to be treated, however he died from his injuries.

A 31-year-old man who travelled to Belfast to meet what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, has pleaded guilty to a number of sexual abuse offences against children. Anil Patel pled guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child, arranging the commission of a child sex offence and possessing extreme pornography of children.

Four Die In Fatal Collision In Armagh In Early Hours Of 24 March
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a fatal collision in Armagh in the early hours of Sunday, 24 March. A driver and three passengers died when the grey Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in crashed on the Ballynahonemore Road at around 2.10am.
