Two Men Targeted In Racist Attack In L'Derry

Two men have been targeted in a racist attack in L'Derry.

The incident happened in Waterloo Place on Tuesday night.

A gang of up to 20 youths followed the two individuals shouting racial abuse.

One of the victims was assaulted by the gang as he was walking through the city centre. He was attacked again in the Sackville Street area by a female who was with the group.

The men were left badly shaken.

An 18-year-old was arrested, however he has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney condemned the attack.

He said: "There can be no place for racism, sexism, sectarianism, homophobia or any form of discrimination in our society.

"Derry is known across the world for its friendly welcome for everyone and this is not reflective of the city.
