Priest Badly Shaken Following Robbery At Parochial House

A priest has been left badly shaken after two men, one armed with a gun, robbed a parochial house in west Belfast.

The incident happened at St Michael's the Archangel on Finaghy Road North at around 7.50pm on Friday, 22 July.

The pair threatened the priest and fled with a sum of money and a set of keys.

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey condemned the incident.

He said: "I visited the victim after the incident along with my party colleague Councillor Matt Garrett and while quite shaken he is determined to continue with his duties including a funeral mass tomorrow morning.

"This was a cowardly and despicable attack on someone who serves the local community.

"Anyone with any information about those responsible should bring it forward to the PSNI."

Detective Sergeant Michael Hawthorne said: "The priest has been left badly shaken by his ordeal and we are appealing for the public's help in identifying the perpetrators of this crime. Please call 101, quoting reference number 1236 22/07/16.  Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
