Man Dies In Lurgan Workplace Incident

The Health & Safety Executive (HSENI) has launched an investigation after a man died in a workplace incident in Lurgan, Co Armagh.

It happened at premises in the Queen's Place area on Thursday morning, 11 August.

In a statement HSENI said: "Our sympathies and thoughts are with the bereaved family at this very difficult time."

No other information has been released.

Upper Bann DUP MP David Simpson said: "I am deeply saddened to learn of the incident in Lurgan this morning where a young man has lost his life. I know the man's family very well and my thoughts and prayers are with them."

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart said: "My sincere sympathies are with the family of the young man. I knew him and his family well and was speaking to him only a few days ago. I pray that God will sustain them through the difficult weeks and months ahead.

"Following the incident this morning I have attended the scene and spoken to the owners of the company who are a very well respected family business in Lurgan. There is absolute devastation at this tragedy. I will be continuing to help all concerned through this difficult time."

Appeal For Information On Serious Assault In Portadown
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a serious assault in Portadown that it being investigated as a 'disability hate crime'. On Saturday, 24 February, at around 5.20pm, police received a report that a young man had been attacked by six teenage boys in the High Street Mall area.

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

Over 500 Attend Farm First Aid Awareness Training
More than 500 farm family members and employees have attended First Aid Awareness training since March 2018, as part of the Farm Family Key Skills (FFKS) scheme. Up to 100 accidents which need medical attention occur each month on Northern Ireland farms.
