Police Granted More Time To Question Royal Marine Ciaran Maxwell

Police have been granted another week to question a Royal Marine from Larne over suspected terrorism offences.

Ciaran Maxwell, 30, was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police in Somerset last week following searches in Larne and Devon.

The request was approved at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to carry out searches in parts of Larne over dissident republican activity.

Police uncovered a "significant terrorist hide" at Carnfunnock Country Park in March.

Explosives and bomb parts were also found in May at Capanagh Forest.

The discoveries are believed to be related to dissident republican groups.
