Road Improvement Project To Start In Co Antrim

A £220,000 road improvement project is to start in Portglenone, Co Antrim.

Work on the resurfacing scheme on the Hiltonstown Road is scheduled to begin on Monday, 19 September.

The project will extend for two kilometres on Hiltonstown Road between the Gortfad Road and the Tullynahinnion Road.

Work is expected to be completed by Friday 07 October.

Clanmil Announces Plans To Build Almost 50 Social Homes In Carrickfergus

Clanmil Housing Association is planning to build almost 50 new social houses in Carrickfergus.

The development, if approved, will be located on the site of the old Woodside's Supermarket at Joymount.

Alliance East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson welcomed the announcement.

He said: "Nearly 50 new homes will be built in this development. It is well needed in Carrickfergus and will hopefully begin in spring 2017.

"I commend Clanmil on their excellent consultation with the community to date. I also trust the Mid and East Antrim Council planners and elected representatives will ensure this much anticipated facility becomes a reality."

Department Of Education Permanent Secretary To Retire

The Department of Education has announced that Permanent Secretary Paul Sweeney will retire at the end of 2016.

Paul Sweeney has served as Permanent Secretary in the Department of Education from February 2010, prior to that he was Permanent Secretary in the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure from April 2006.

Education Minister Peter Weir MLA said: "Paul Sweeney has held senior positions in the Northern Ireland Civil Service over the past 20 years and can be proud of the contribution he has made during this time. A Permanent Secretary role is a challenging one requiring the post holder to have excellent leadership and communication skills. Paul has led the Department of Education through some demanding periods of change and reform and he can be proud of what he has achieved."
