Changes Made To Bin Collection Routes In Belfast

Changes have been made to bin collection routes across Belfast.

From Monday, 17 October, bin collection routes across the city are changing, according to Belfast City Council.

Letters are currently being sent to householders, telling them about any changes to their collections.

Councillor Matt Garrett said: "Most routes had not been changed or reviewed since the introduction of recycling across the city in the early 2000s, and this is probably the single greatest city-wide change since the introduction of wheeled bins many years before that.

"Over the intervening years, our routes had become inefficient, due to changes such as increased household recycling. Significant property growth across the city also has proved a major factor.

"Inevitably, there may be some disruption to services in the early stages, as both householders and our staff alike become used to the new arrangements. However, we will have additional resources available during these first few weeks to assist with any difficulties experienced, and will work hard to minimise this disruption."
