UUP launch 'Key Deliverables' plan for local government

The Ulster Unionist Party has launched five 'Key Deliverables' it believes can create a substantial number of jobs as well as underpinning local economic prosperity once power is restored to local government.

The policy areas, which were launched today by David Trimble, Sir Reg Empey, Dermot Nesbitt and Michael McGimpsey, were described as being "a multi-million pound boost for Northern Ireland" once the Assembly elections are decided.

The UUP's five 'deliverables' are:
  • An integrated primary healthcare centre in every major population area;
  • Replacing all mobile classrooms with permanent accommodation within five years;
  • Dualling of key routes – Belfast to Coleraine, Enniskillen, Larne, Londonderry and Newry;
  • A radical, pro-active community relations policy to focused on sectarian interface areas;
  • The promotion of a national sports stadium.
However, a party statement warned that the 'deliverables' could only be achieved if extremists did not take centre stage at the forthcoming elections.

"The prospect of a better future could be lost if people don’t vote. Only Ulster Unionists can deliver what this entire community needs," the statement added.
