Deal Signed For Brandywell Redevelopment Scheme

Co Tyrone based contractors, McAleer and Teague have signed a deal to start work on the £7million Brandywell Redevelopment project in L'Derry.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Alderman Hilary McClintock welcomed the news and said: "I am delighted that work on the Brandywell Redevelopment Project is starting from next week. This is a hugely significant investment of £7m from Derry City and Strabane District Council with assistance from the OFMDFM’s Social Investment Fund.

"The Council is delighted to have reached this stage in the process and acknowledges the hard work that has gone into getting the project to this stage, it is a major project that will see real benefits for the local sporting fraternity and will have positive economic and social benefits for the people of the Brandywell and wider areas."

Barry O'Hagan, Head of Community Development and Leisure, said: "The work will see the development of a new 955 seater stand that incorporates new changing rooms, media facilities, meeting spaces, safety control centre, along with standing accommodation for 270 spectators adjoining the new stand that will bring the existing capacity for the ground to approximately 3,700.

"In addition to the new stand, a new synthetic turf pitch, a standalone dog track, the refurbishment of the south-end stand and additional car parking as well as substantial improvement works across the stadium will be undertaken, including major infrastructural improvements and the replacement of the existing boundary walls to the wider Brandywell site. These are the works that have been detailed at all stakeholders meetings and during the consultation process."
