Gale Force Winds And Snow Expected In NI

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for gale force winds and snow across Northern Ireland.

The warning has been put in place from Wednesday, 11 January, until 12pm on Thursday, 12 January.

Gale force winds of up to 70mph are expected in some places with increasing wintry showers.

Several centimetres of snow will begin to accumulate from western coasts, especially over higher ground.

Temperatures will plummet and showers will turn to snow, sleet and hail in many areas.

Lightning is also expected and there may be potential disruption to power supplies.

Motorists are being advised to take care as travel conditions will be affected.

Fire Service Issues Warning Over Gorse Fires
Nearly all gorse fires attended by emergency services since the beginning of May have been started deliberately, according to the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS). The organisation has been called out to more than 200 gorse fires since the start of this month and it is thought nearly all of the incidents have been started on purpose.

Police have issued a warning to the public to be aware when using cash machines after one was found to be tampered with in south Belfast. The ATM machine, in the Botanic area, appeared to have two small holes drilled into it.

Police Issue Warning Over ATM Skimming Devices
Police in Newtownabbey have issued a warning after a skimming device was found at a ATM machine in the area. The PSNI called on the public to be vigilant. Thieves use skimming devices to steal personal information stored on credit or debit cards and record the PIN number to access cash from the account.

Severe Gale Force Winds Expected Across NI
Prolonged heavy rain and gale force winds are expected to last until the early hours of Sunday morning, according to the Met Office. Severe gale force winds with gusts of up to 50mph are expected in some places and there is also a high risk of flooding in some areas. The Met Office has issued a 'Yellow' weather warning across Northern Ireland.

Gale force winds are expected to hit Northern Ireland early tomorrow evening, according to the Met Office. Northern Ireland's forecast has been upgraded to 'yellow' for tomorrow and Thursday, due to strong winds along the east and north coasts.

Officers Did Not Use Excessive Force Against Vulnerable Woman
A complaint that PSNI officers used excessive force against a vulnerable woman during an incident in Belfast has been rejected by the Police Ombudsman. The woman alleged that officers had twice pushed her against a wall to search her, had "goaded" her, and had also put her in the back of a "police van" despite knowing that this made her fearful.

Man Injured After Masked Men Force Their Way Into Belfast Home
A man has been injured after four masked men armed with bats forced their way into his home in Belfast. The incident happened at a property in the Shore Crescent area on Tuesday night, 07 February. They stole the victims car keys and made off in the direction of the Shore Road.

Snow Hits Several Parts Of NI
Several parts of Northern Ireland have been hit with snow today, 28 April. Traffic was also moving slowly throughout some areas in NI as motorists took care on the roads. According to the Met Office, outbreaks of rain are expected throughout the day with hill snow and it is to become windier.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning from 6pm on Tuesday as snow and icy conditions are expected to continue into Wednesday morning. Heavy showers are expected this evening with snow on high ground, and strong to gale force winds.
