Gale Force Winds And Snow Expected In NI

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for gale force winds and snow across Northern Ireland.

The warning has been put in place from Wednesday, 11 January, until 12pm on Thursday, 12 January.

Gale force winds of up to 70mph are expected in some places with increasing wintry showers.

Several centimetres of snow will begin to accumulate from western coasts, especially over higher ground.

Temperatures will plummet and showers will turn to snow, sleet and hail in many areas.

Lightning is also expected and there may be potential disruption to power supplies.

Motorists are being advised to take care as travel conditions will be affected.

Warning Issued Over Speeding Penalty Scam
Police have issued a warning to the public to be aware of a speeding penalty scam in England. No reports of the scam have been received in NI, however the PSNI is warning people to be vigilant after an official-looking form is being emailed to drivers stating that their vehicle has been recorded driving in excess of a speed limit.

Three Arrested After £160,000 Drugs Seizure In Armagh
Three people have been arrested after police seized drugs worth an estimated street value of £160,000 in Co Armagh. The PSNI recovered the drugs after searching two properties in the Bessbrook area on Monday, 13 November. A quantity of cash was also recovered.

Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud A man has been convicted for claiming benefits he was not entitled to at Belfast Magistrates' Court. William Conville claimed Jobseeker's Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £2,248 while failing to declare employment. He was sentenced to 100 hours community service, subject to appeal.

Prolonged heavy rain and gale force winds are expected to last until the early hours of Sunday morning, according to the Met Office. Severe gale force winds with gusts of up to 50mph are expected in some places and there is also a high risk of flooding in some areas. The Met Office has issued a 'Yellow' weather warning across Northern Ireland.

A yellow weather warning for strong winds and gales has been issued in Northern Ireland. The warning has been put in place from 00.05am on Monday, 02 October, until 11.55pm. Gusts of up to 50-60mph are likely to develop, according to the Met Office.

NI Prepares For Gale Force Winds

Man Who Had Three Fingers Broken In Custody Was 'Accidental'
A man who sustained three broken fingers in police custody was accidental, according to the Police Ombudsman. Dr Michael Maguire concluded that custody staff used reasonable force when a man refused to return to his cell, and had not deliberately caused the man's injuries by closing the cell door on his hand.

Snow Hits Several Parts Of NI
Several parts of Northern Ireland have been hit with snow today, 28 April. Traffic was also moving slowly throughout some areas in NI as motorists took care on the roads. According to the Met Office, outbreaks of rain are expected throughout the day with hill snow and it is to become windier.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning from 6pm on Tuesday as snow and icy conditions are expected to continue into Wednesday morning. Heavy showers are expected this evening with snow on high ground, and strong to gale force winds.

The Met Office has upgraded its latest weather warning for Northern Ireland. On Tuesday, the forecaster issued a 'yellow' alert for snow which is in place until 5pm today. This will then be replaced by an 'amber' alert as snow and icy conditions are expected to affect much of the region.

Heavy Snow Forecast For NI
A yellow weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland, coming into affect on Thursday evening. It will remain in place until Saturday evening. According to the MET Office, the first outbreaks of sleet and snow will arrive in Co Fermanagh and Co Armagh by dusk. An area of rain and sleet will move in from the south later, turning to snow.
