NI Prison Officers To Wear Body Worn Cameras

Prison officers in Northern Ireland will soon wear Body Worn Cameras to help improve safety in prisons.

The NI Prison Service carried out a successful pilot scheme of the use of Body Worn Cameras in high risk areas in the prison estate.

Justice Minister Claire Sugden confirmed Body Worn Cameras will be available for deployment in all areas of the three prison establishments.

She said: "I believe this is a significant and important step in ensuring that prison officers have the right tools to perform their difficult and challenging role and will contribute to a safer prison environment for both staff and prisoners."
