First Case Of Bird Flu Found In Swan In NI
The first case of bird flu has been found in a dead swan in Northern Ireland, the Department of Agriculture has confirmed.
The wild swan was found by a member of the public near Lough Beg in Co L'Derry and it tested positive for the H5N8 avian influenza.
Chief Veterinary Officer, Robert Huey, said: "This finding is not unexpected and follows calls for bird keepers to be more vigilant for signs of the disease. It is possible that more cases will be confirmed.
"This finding serves to remind us all of the risk of infection. The Prevention Zone and temporary suspension on gatherings of poultry remain in place. It is also important that bird keepers in Northern Ireland remain vigilant and where necessary improve their biosecurity. Even when birds are housed there is still a risk of infection and biosecurity should not be compromised. Clothing and equipment should be disinfected, the movement of poultry should be reduced and contact between poultry and wild birds should be minimised."

Two Men Arrested Following Assault In Armagh
Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault in Armagh on Tuesday, 16 January. Shortly after 2.20pm, it was reported to police that a man, aged in his 50s, has been assaulted in a house in the Ballynahone Crescent area. Officers attended and arrested two men, aged 40 and 53, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Three In Hospital After Police Vehicle Collides With Another Vehicle
Two police officers and a civilian remain in hospital following a collision in Newry on Saturday, 13 April. It is understood that the police officers were travelling in a police vehicle to attend a separate incident at about 7.30pm when they collided with another vehicle on the Fathom Road.

Public Appeal After Third Confirmed Case Of Measles In Ireland
The Public Health Agency (PHA) has announced that it has been made aware of a third confirmed case of measles in the Republic of Ireland. It is understood that the case was confirmed in a resident of Ireland who had arrived back in the country from Abu Dhabi on Saturday 9 March 2024.
