Govt Must Fulfil Obligations On Irish Language Act – SF
The British government must fulfil its obligations on an Irish language act, Sinn Féin's Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has told a meeting of the finance ministers from the north of Ireland, Scotland and Wales and the British Treasury.
Following the meeting the Finance Minister said: "At the meeting I told David Gauke, chief secretary to the Treasury, that Tory policies have undermined the peace, reconciliation and political processes in the North.
"For too long the Tories have provided cover for DUP disrespect to the Irish language and identity.
"Nowhere is that clearer than in their opposition to an Irish Language Act, which was promised in the St Andrew's Agreement but has not been delivered to date due to the DUP-Tory tag team of intolerance."
£205,000 Road Upgrade Scheme To Begin In Lisburn
Work is to begin on a £205,000 road upgrade scheme in Lisburn.
The Transport NI scheme involves extensive reconstruction and resurfacing on an 860-metre section of road between Aghnatrisk Road and the entrance to the Eikon Centre on Halftown Road.
The project will improve strength and surface quality of the route, which is used by over 6,000 vehicles on a daily basis.
Work is to start on 24 February and is expected to be largely completed by 24 March, subject to weather conditions.
For the safety of road users and contractors,t eh works will be carried out under a road closure between 9.30am – 4.30pm between Monday and Friday. Weekend closures will be required to complete the final surfacing phase. Diversions will be in place.
Portrush Security Alert Declared A Hoax
A security alert in Portrush has been declared a hoax following a major security operation.
The operation began early this morning, Tuesday 14 February, when a suspicious object was discovered on Magheraboy Drive, Portrush, County Antrim.
A number of homes in the area were evacuated during the operation, but those residents have now been allowed to return to their homes.
Police said that following an investigation, the device was declared a hoax and has been removed.
The device will undergo further forensic investigation.
The PSNI have appealed for anyone with any information on the incident to contact them.

Foster 'Uplifted' After Meeting Irish Language Students
DUP leader Arlene Foster said she had been "uplifted" after meeting Irish language students at a school in Newry. Mrs Foster met with pupils from Our Lady's Grammar School on Wednesday, 26 April. In February she said more people spoke Polish than Irish in Northern Ireland and declared the party would never agree to an act protecting the language.
