Work Starts On Road Improvement Projects In Co Armagh

Contractors have started work on £170,000 road improvement projects in Tandragee, Co Armagh.

The schemes are taking place at Irish Street Richhill and Gilford Street.

They involve the resurfacing of 1km of roads and where appropriate the reinstatement of footways and verges.

To facilitate the schemes, temporary road closures will be in place. The closure at Irish Street Richhill is from 7am on Monday 20 February to 6pm on Sunday 26 February. Traffic is being diverted via B111 Newline, U7660 Main Street Richhill and U7660 The Square Richhill.

The closure at Gilford Street Tandragee will be from 7am on Monday 06 March to 6pm on Friday 10 March. Traffic is being diverted via U7825 Gilford Street, A27 Market Street and A51 Madden Road.

Memorial Parade In Memory Of UDR Soldiers To Take Place In Belfast
A memorial parade to pay tribute to two UDR soldiers who were murdered by republican terrorists almost 30 years ago is to take place in Belfast on Saturday, 25 February. Two soldiers were on duty in the city centre on February 24, 1988, when they were killed by an IRA booby-trap device. The parade will leave Templemore Avenue at 10.

Marathon organisers warn of traffic disruption
Organisers of this year's 22nd Belfast City Marathon are warning motorists of the expected traffic disruption throughout most of Bank Holiday Monday. Disruption can be expected along the routes of both the main Belfast City Marathon and the associated Fun Run which begins at City Hall.

Road Works To Get Started In Belfast
The Department for Regional Development will start work on a number of junction improvements in Belfast city centre next week. The improvements on Grosvenor Road/Durham Street and Hope Street/Great Victoria Street are part of the Belfast On The Move Transport Masterplan which will give higher priority to public transport, pedestrians and cyclists.

Daniel Murray Murder: Police Appeal For Information
Police are appealing for information following the murder of Daniel Murray. Mr Murray, a delivery driver, aged 55, was shot in his car in the Lady Street area of west Belfast on Monday, 09 May. He was driving a black Ford Focus, vehicle registration number PCZ 8770, and was shot shortly before 10.20pm.

Serious Road Crash In Co Down
A serious road crash has occurred in Greyabbey, Co Down. Emergency services and police are currently attending the scene in the Greyabbey area. Two vehicles were involved in the collision and the Ballywalter Road has been closed between Main Street and Ballybryan Road. No other information has been released.

Woman Killed In Co Armagh Road Collision
A woman in her 30s has been killed in a road crash in Portadown, Co Armagh. The woman was hit by a car as she was walking on the side of the Moy Road at around 9.45pm on Tuesday. The road was closed for a short time but it has been reopened. Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Road death figures are lowest in 50 years
Figures released today by the Department of the Environment have revealed that road deaths in Northern Ireland last year were at the lowest level in 50 years. The total number of road deaths in 2005 totalled 136, the lowest number since 1952 when 133 people lost their lives at at time when there was one eighth of the number of vehicles on the road.

Bishop Street In L'Derry To Be Resurfaced
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of a £175,000 major resurfacing scheme on Bishop Street, Londonderry, this week. The work is due to begin on Monday 29 July 2013 between the junction at Abercorn Road and the junction with Foyle Road and will last for five weeks.

Man Charged Following Drugs Find
A man has been charged after police seized drugs, worth a street value of between £50,000-£75,000, in Co L'Derry. Cannabis plants and herbal cannabis were discovered during search in the High Street area in Draperstown on Wednesday. A 35-year-old man has been charged with possession and cultivation of class B drugs with intent to supply.

Around 20,000 LED Street Lights To Be Installed Across NI
Approximately 20,000 LED street lights are to be installed across Northern Ireland over the next eight months. The major pilot scheme, in Banbrdige and Craigavon, was announced by Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy.
