NI Assembly To Pay Tribute To Martin McGuinness

The Northern Ireland Assembly is to meet later today, 22 March, to remember former deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

The former IRA leader turned peacemaker died in the early hours of Tuesday, 21 March, at Altnagelvin Hospital in L'Derry following a short illness.

Speaker Robin Newton invited MLAs to the Chamber at midday to pay tribute to Mr McGuinness.

Following the meeting, a book of condolence will open in the Great Hall at Parliament Buildings.

His funeral will take place in L'Derry on Thursday, 23 March.

Minister Welcomes 'Positive' Discussion With Teaching Unions
The Education Minister, Paul Givan, has welcomed a 'positive' meeting with teaching unions, during which the discussed resolving the ongoing pay dispute. Minister Givan met with representatives of the Northern Ireland Teachers' Council (NITC) which comprises the five recognised teachers' unions - NASUWT, INTO, UTU, NEU and NAHT(NI).

Economy Minister Meets With Further Education Unions
Economy Minister, Conor Murphy, has held a meeting with representatives of the UCU and NASUWT unions representing workers in the further education sector to discuss the requirements of a new pay award. Following the meeting, Minister Murphy said: "I am very keen to ensure further education staff get a pay uplift as soon as possible.

Finance Minister Committed To Delivering Public Sector Pay Award
New Finance Minister, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, has committed to delivering a public sector pay award that will reflect "the vital role they play in delivering public services". The Minister has held her first official meeting with civil service trade unions – NIPSA, FDA, Unite and GMB – to discuss the issues affecting public services.

Appeal For Information Following Collision In Ballymoney
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a single vehicle road traffic collision in Ballymoney yesterday, Tuesday 6th February. At around 3.40pm, it was reported to police that a grey Citroen C3 had collided with a pole on the Drones Road.
