Man Killed In Belfast Altercation Named

A 31-year-old man who died following an altercation in Belfast city centre has been named as Paul McCready from north Belfast.

The incident happened in the Donegal Street area just before 1am on Sunday, 02 April.

He died from his injuries in hospital.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and is in police custody.

Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín said: "The death of a 31 year-old-man following an altercation close to Donegall Street in Belfast city centre has shocked local people.

"My thoughts and sympathies are with the family of this man at this time.

"I would appeal for anyone with information on this incident to come forward and contact the police."

Detective Chief Inspector Geoffrey Boyce said: "We know that a large number of people were in the vicinity of the Donegall Street/Waring Street junction at around the time the altercation took place.

"I would appeal to those people who have not yet gotten in touch with the investigation team to please do so.

"Investigators can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting reference number 94 02/04/17."

A man, allegedly armed with a hatchet, has been arrested following an altercation in west Belfast. The incident happened in the Grosvenor Road area just after midnight. The 20-year-old man stole a necklace and a bracelet during a confrontation with two people, according to the police. A car window was also smashed in the incident.

Man Stabbed In Belfast
A man has been injured after being seriously assaulted in Belfast. The attack happened on the Antrim Road area just before 8.30am on Friday, 04 August. The victims, aged in his 30s, was stabbed twice in the back following an altercation between a number of people. He is being treated in hospital.

A man, aged in his 30s, has been stabbed in north Belfast. The altercation occurred just before 4.35pm on in the Clifton Drive and Cliftonville Road area on Easter Monday. The victim was taken to hospital to be treated.
