Missing Prisoner Arrested In South Belfast

An inmate who was released in error from Maghaberry Prison almost a month ago has been arrested in the Carryduff area of south Belfast.

Michael Lawrence Smith, 38, was detained by police on Wednesday night, 05 April, and the PSNI thanked the public for their help.

The Northern Ireland Prison Serive (NIPS) apologised over the "serious mistake" which led to the prisoner being released by accident last month.

Smith has been charged with the murder of a man in south Belfast last year.
