Chief Constable says police 'ready' for dissident threat
PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde has warned that there may be more "problems" in the next two days as police make final security preparations to guard the polling stations in Northern Ireland ahead of tomorrow's election.
The Chief Constable's comments came after a bomb attack near an army base in Dungannon in Co Tyrone on Monday.
Mr Orde said that police were treating the threat of attacks by dissident republicans "very seriously".
The Chief Constable said over 2,000 officers would be involved in policing the election tomorrow to ensure that people could exercise their democratic right to vote without fear of intimidation.
But he warned that he was concerned that there may be further incidents within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Elsewhere on Monday evening, in what is thought to have been a drive-by shooting, several shots were fired at Newry police station.

Appeal Following Petrol Bomb Attack In Banbridge
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a petrol bomb attack in Banbridge, in the early hours of Tuesday 19th March. It was reported that at around 2.10am on Tuesday morning, two petrol bombs were thrown at the back wall of a house in the Castlewellan Road area, causing scorch damage to the wall and a window frame.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Closer links forged in cross-border crime fight
The PSNI and An Garda Síochána today signed joint protocols aimed at further enhancing the close working relationship enjoyed by the two police forces. Police Ombudsman to brief board on report
The Policing Board are to be briefed by Police Ombudsman Nuala O'Loan this afternoon. The meeting is expected to be tense and the PSNI Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde is expected to attend the meeting. Mrs O'Loan's report has come under fire from the retired police officer's association.
