Fresh Search For Disappeared Victim's Body To Begin In France

A fresh search is to get underway in northern France on Tuesday, 02 May, for the remains of one of Northern Ireland's Disappeared.

Seamus Ruddy, 32, was abducted in Paris and killed by the INLA in 1985. He was secretly buried in France.

The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains (ICLVR) will start the search at a forest at Pont-de-l'Arche outside Rouen.

Mr Ruddy was from Newry and was teaching in Paris.

The PSNI's Serious Crime Branch have issued a fresh appeal for information on the 30th anniversary of the murder of German backpacker, Inga Maria Hauser. Ms Hauser's body was found in Ballypatrick Forest in North Antrim in April 1988. She was 18-years-old at the time of her death.

Police in Northern Ireland are taking part in a 24-hour crackdown on speeding. The PSNI are participating in The European Traffic Police Network which will pay attention to drivers who fail to stay within the speed limits.

Mother Warned Prison Staff Hours Before Son's Death
The Head of the Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) has issued an apology after a report revealed that the mother of a man who killed himself warned staff that he had threatened to take his own life. David O'Driscoll, 30, hanged himself in his cell in Maghaberry Prison in August 2016.

Farmer Convicted In Newry A farmer has been convicted of one charge of transporting an animal that was not fit for the journey and one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a bovine animal at Newry Court. Mr Francis Toner, Slatequarry Road, Cullyhana, was fined £750 and received a conditional discharge for 12 months plus £15 offenders levy.

Further Arts Cuts In Latest Funding Allocation
The Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI) has announced annual funding of £13,109,178 for 100 key arts organisations from its exchequer and National Lottery resources. Government funds of £8,573,382 maintain the core costs of 100 arts organisations while £4,535,796 of National Lottery funding supports their programming costs.
