Former Landfill Facility In Belfast Transformed

A former landfill facility on the north foreshore of Belfast Lough has been transformed.

At 340 acres, 'Giant's Park' has officially opened for business.

Roads and services infrastructure have recently been completed and it is now ready to house Northern Ireland's first Cleantech Hub, an innovative business cluster for companies working in the environmental sector on 40 acres of the southern portion of Giant's Park.

The infrastructure project is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland (£1.6m) and the European Regional Development Fund (£2.2m), under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland, along with investment from Belfast City Council.

It is hoped the Hub will create an estimated 330 jobs in green technologies and generate in the region of £88m private sector investment for Belfast.

Commercial estate agents Lisney are marketing the Cleantech Hub to potential occupiers, investors and developers.

In addition, expressions of interest are now being sought by GVA Property Consultants for a commercial leisure led, mixed use development to occupy 200 acres of land within the northern and western portions of the site. The deadline for the initial Expressions of Interest is Friday, 19 May 2017.

The site will also include a £20m film studio complex, developed by Belfast Harbour, with NI Screen marketing the film studio to its global industry contact network.

Belfast Lord Mayor Alderman Brian Kingston said: "Giant's Park holds huge potential to deliver physical, economic and social benefits for Belfast.

"The Giant's Park Cleantech Hub will provide an incredible base for companies working in the Cleantech and environmental sectors. And the northern and western portions of the site offer an unrivalled opportunity for developers with the experience and ability to acquire, build and manage a commercial leisure led, mixed use development in North Belfast, close to the city centre. We're expecting a lot of interest."
