Work On Road Improvement Scheme In Bangor To Begin

Work on a £125,000 road improvement scheme at Balloo Road in Bangor is to commence on Monday, 29 May.

The resurfacing scheme will improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on an 800m section of this important C class link road on the outskirts of Bangor.

The first phase of resurfacing will be carried out over four consecutive nights from 29 May to 01 June between the times of 8pm and 6am.

The second phase will be carried out over two consecutive nights on 05 June and 06 June between the times of 8pm and 6am.

Diversions will be put in place.

Work To Begin To Restore Parts Of Mourne Wall

Work is to start to restore parts of the Mourne Wall in Co Down.

NI Water is currently in talks with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) to repair a 2.5km section of the Mourne Wall between Slieve Loughshannagh and Slieve Meelmore which is surrounded by NI Water land.

The first phase of work is expected to begin at the end of this month.

The site compound for the first section will be located on NI Water land adjacent to Fofanny Water Treatment Works and local experienced stonemasons will carry out the repairs under the management of NI Water, contractor GEDA Construction, with advice and guidance from Mourne Heritage Trust (MHT).

Alliance Condemns attack On Teenager In West Belfast

Alliance West Belfast Westminster candidate Sorcha Eastwood has condemned those behind a recent attack on a teenager in west Belfast.

The victim was bundled into the back of a car and suffered a beating during the incident.

She said: "There can be no excuse for this senseless violence and I must condemn all who were involved.

"My thoughts are with the victim and his family at this time, and with the local people who do not want to see this type of behaviour in the community.

"I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible, ensuring those responsible are removed from our streets."

Renewed Appeal For Help Tracing Paula Elliott
The PSNI have issued a fresh appeal for help in tracing the whereabouts of Paula Elliott, who was last seen on Tuesday, 05 March. The 52-year-old was last seen on CCTV cameras leaving the Sprucefield Court area of Lisburn at 5.30pm, before making her way to Warren Gardens at around 5.36pm.

A number of roads remain closed across Northern Ireland following the damage caused by Storm Ali. The following roads are still closed, however the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is working to clear the obstructions along with its multiagency partners.

Work begins on £20m Mourne water treatment works
Regional Development Minister Peter Robinson has helped to lay the foundations of the new £20 million Mourne Water Treatment Works at Drumaroad, near Castlewellan. It will be the largest Water Treatment Works to be constructed in Northern Ireland and will treat 155 million litres of water per day, supplied from the Silent Valley in the Mournes.
