Police Appeal For Information After Serious Sexual Assault In South Belfast

An investigation has been launched into the alleged serious sexual assault of a woman in south Belfast on 12 July.

Police have said that the woman was attacked shortly after midnight in St George's Gardens near Sandy Row.

Police are searching for a man in connection with the attack. Two men who are known to have spoken to the woman and the suspect shortly before the attack have been urged to contact police.

Any other potential witnesses have also been asked to contact police.

Police have launched an investigation after a gun and ammunition were recovered during a search in south Belfast. The discovery was made in the Annadale Crescent area on Wednesday, 16 November. The items have been taken away for forensic examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Pensioner attacked during burglary of her home
A 90-year-old woman was assaulted during a burglary of her home in Ballygowan, Co Down last night. The woman was confronted by a teenager after hearing noise in her kitchen. The youth then assaulted the elderly woman before escaping into an alley at the back of the house. Police believe an accomplice then joined the assailant.

UUP 'concerns' over health provision in south west
The Ulster Unionist Party has voiced its concerns over the status of health provision in Mid-Ulster, with party leader David Trimble pledging to raise the issue when the assembly gets back on track. Mr Trimble voiced his "serious concerns" over the growing gap in provision of hospital services in Tyrone.

Man arrested after drugs find
Police seized a large quantity of Class A drugs, following a planned search at a premises in south Belfast yesterday. An amount of suspected Ecstasy and cocaine, with an estimated street value of £120,000, was recovered during the raid. A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged with possession of Class A drugs, with intent to supply.

Taser Deployed As Robbery Suspects Held
A Taser has been fired as a specialist firearms officer took part in the arrest of three men in west Belfast. It happened during a police operation at the Twin Spires on the Falls Road, around 11.15am on Thursday. The PSNI said that the men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob and possession of a firearm.

Images Released After Man Attacked In South Belfast
A 36-year-old man has been attacked in south Belfast. The incident occurred at an off-licence in the Ormeau Road area at around 7.45pm on Saturday 30 May. Police said they will be releasing images after the man was assaulted by three males. The victim required hospital treatment, however his injuries were not life-threatening.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Woman Found Unconscious On Co Down Road
A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.

Police Appeal After Man Attacked And Robbed In South Belfast
Police are appealing for information after a man was punched in the face and robbed in south Belfast. The attack occurred in the College Park Avenue area on Saturday 31 October. Another man punched the victim in the face and stole his bag. The suspect, believed to be in his 30s, is described as around 6ft tall with stubble.

Man's Body Recovered From Bangor Marina
Police have launched an investigation after the body of a man was recovered from Bangor Marina on Wednesday, 13 May. Police received a report that a man had entered the water shortly after 10.15am. Emergency services and police attended the scene and the body was recovered from the water. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Man admits to Megan McAlorum murder
A man accused of murdering a Belfast teenager two years ago has admitted to the crime moments before the murder trial was due to begin. Thomas Purcell, 19, from Windsor Road, Belfast had continually denied murdering 16-year-old Megan McAlorum from Dunmurry.

Police launch murder inquiry in south Belfast
Police have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a man in south Belfast. The victim, who is thought to be of Chinese origin, was found with serious head injuries at a flat in Hampton Drive following report’s of a disturbance at around 3am on Tuesday. The man was given first aid but died at the scene.

Men treated for shock after south Belfast robbery
Two men have been treated for shock after being kidnapped during a robbery in south Belfast today. Almost £10,000 worth of cigarettes were stolen during the incident shortly before lunchtime when the men were bundled into the back of a van in University Street as they made a delivery to a hotel.

Woman’s Belfast home and business attacked
The UDA are being blamed for orchestrating an attack on two different premises of a woman in north Belfast. Police were first alerted at lunchtime on Friday following reports that a number of shots had been fired through the front door of a woman’s house on Brae Hill Crescent.

A police officer accidentally fired a shot at a car believed to contain armed paramilitaries, a report by the Police Ombudsman has revealed. The incident happened in south Belfast on 6 November 2013.
