Viable Pipe Bomb Found In West Belfast

A viable pipe bomb has been discovered during a security alert in west Belfast.

The device was found in the Andersonstown area on Saturday night, 15 July.

A number of residents had to be evacuated from their homes, however they have since returned.

The device was made safe and has been retaken for further examination.

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey said: "A number of residents were moved from their homes during the security alert in Coolnasilla Park West.

"This device could have endangered residents in the area.

"An area was sealed off by police and the bomb defused on site.

"There can be no justification for this attack and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact the police."
