House In Newtownards Damaged In Arson Attack

A house in Newtownards has been targeted twice in an arson attack with extensive damage caused.

Six windows were smashed at the property in the Meadowvale Park area just after 5am on Sunday, 16 July.

Damage was also caused inside the house. The PSNI attended the scene to secure the home, however shortly after 7am reports were received that it had been set on fire.

The occupant had left the property and no-one was injured.

Alliance MLA Kellie Armstrong said: "I condemn this attack, which happened in the early hours of a quiet Sunday morning.

"A residential area, this attack purposely happened when most people were asleep. If the alarm had not been raised I dread to imagine what could have happened and what we would have woken up to.

"Thankfully the PSNI and NI Fire & Rescue Service were able to contain what could have been a tragic incident. I call on anyone with information to contact the PSNI by calling 101."
