Police Seize Gun And Cash In West Belfast Searches

Police investigating dissident republican activity have seized a firearm during a search operation in West Belfast.

The searches were carried out in Andersontown area on Thursday, 03 August.

Detectives from the Serious Crime Branch also discovered a sum of cash and a small quantity of suspected drugs during the operation.

Suspected Firearm Found In West Belfast
A security operation in west Belfast has now ended. A suspected firearm was found during police searches in the Upper Springfield Road. Diversions were put in place and the area was sealed off. The item has been taken away for further examination and the road has been re-opened.

Number Of Searches Carried Out In West Belfast
A number of searches have been carried out at premises in west Belfast on Monday, 12 June. The PSNI's Terrorism and Investigation unit carried out the searches in the Falls Road area. They were in connection with ongoing dissident republican activity in Belfast.

Over 700 Rounds Of Ammunition Seized During Searches In West Belfast
Over 700 rounds of ammunition were seized by police during searches in west Belfast on Sunday. The searches were part of an investigation into dissident republican terrorist activity. A 57-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man were arrested and are being detained in custody.

New Search Begins In Co Meath For 'Disappeared' Victim
A new search for the remains of Brendan Megraw, one of the Disappeared, is underway in Oristown, Co Meath. Mr Megraw was 23-years-old when he was abducted by the IRA from his home in west Belfast in April 1978. Led by the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains, the new search will focus on a bog in Oristown, near Kells.
