Three People Arrested Over Criminal Activity Linked To The UVF

Three people have been arrested as part of ongoing investigations into criminal activity linked to the UVF in north Belfast.

The PSNI's Criminal Investigation branch carried out a total of seven searches on Monday, 11 September.

A man and woman were detained in Newtownabbey and a 56-year-old man was arrested in north Belfast.

They are all being questioned at Musgrave Police Station.

Man Charged Over Murder Of Anne O'Neill
A 27-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Anne ONeill. The 51-year-old victim died from her injuries following an incident at a house in the Ardmore Avenue area in Finaghy on Saturday, 21 October. The suspect is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 25 October.

Man Who Had Three Fingers Broken In Custody Was 'Accidental'
A man who sustained three broken fingers in police custody was accidental, according to the Police Ombudsman. Dr Michael Maguire concluded that custody staff used reasonable force when a man refused to return to his cell, and had not deliberately caused the man's injuries by closing the cell door on his hand.

Pedestrian Dies In Co Antrim Road Crash
A male pedestrian has died in a road collision in Co Antrim. The man was struck by a car on the Portglenone Road in Randalstown just after 1.15am on Tuesday, 31 October. The crash happened close to a primary school in the area. The Portglenone Road remains closed between the Mucklerammer Road and Coolsythe Road.

Three Arrested Over 1994 UVF Murders
Three men have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of two Catholic workmen almost 20 years ago. In May 1994, Gary Convie, 24, and 44-year-old Eamon Fox were sitting in their car at a building site in North Queen Street, Belfast, when a gunman opened fire. The two men were shot dead by the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF).

Two Arrests Over Racial Hate Crime Attack
Police have arrested two men in relation to what they are describing as a racial hate crime in north Belfast. The pair, aged 20 and 21, were arrested following criminal damage was caused to a vehicle on the Cliftonville Road. The men are still being questioned by police.

Madam Threatened NI Prostitutes With Murder
A madam threatened prostitutes with violence and murder, Belfast Crown Court was told yesterday. Rong Chen, 35, a one-time prostitute, lured women to Northern Ireland with promises of legitimate jobs. They were then forced to work in brothels in Belfast, Newry and Londonderry.

Man Charged With Attempted Murder
A man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed a number of times in Belfast. The incident happened in the Ballynafoy Close area, just off the Ravenhill Road, at around 11.15pm on Tuesday, 07 November. Police were called to an altercation and a man, aged in his 20s, was found to have been stabbed multiple times.

Three Arrested After Man Found Dead In North Belfast
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after a man's body was discovered at a house in north Belfast. Police have launched an investigation after a man, aged in his 20s, was found dead in North Queen Street, on Tuesday, 31 October. A post mortem is to be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Belfast Woman Escapes Gun Attack
A Belfast woman has narrowly escaped injury after an Estonian man was shot at a bar she was working in at the time in Spain. The victim was sitting on the terrace of the Point pub in Nueva Andalucía at around 9pm last night when two men came up on a moped. One of the men shot the victim in the back of the neck.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of Conor McKee
A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Conor McKee. Mr McKee was found dead at his home in Glenpark Street in north Belfast on Thursday, 07 January. He had been shot a number of times. The suspect is being questioned at a police station in Belfast.

Man Arrested Over Shooting Attack In North Belfast Released Unconditionally
A man arrested in connection with a paramilitary-style shooting in north Belfast has been released unconditionally. A 30-year-old man was shot in both legs in the Velsheda Court area of Ardoyne on Monday, 02 October. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. A 51-year-old was detained after a search, however he has since been released.

Woman's body found in boot of car
Two men have been arrested following the discovery of a woman's body in the boot of a car in north Belfast early this morning. Police made the find after receiving a tip-off about suspicious activity in the Skegoneil Avenue area just after 1am.

Viable Device Found During Security Alert In South Belfast
A viable device has been found during a security alert in south Belfast. Residents had to be evacuated from their homes after a suspicious object was found in the Lavinia Square area on Thursday night, 16 November. Army bomb disposal experts attended the scene and the area was sealed off. The device has been taken away for further examination.

'Prominent' Loyalist Arrested Over 1994 UVF Murders
A "prominent" loyalist has been arrested in the UK in connection with three UVF murders in 1994. According to reports, detectives have arrested 45-year-old Mark Haddock as part of an investigation into the shooting of Sean McParland in north Belfast.
