Woman And Child Escape Injury After House Attacked In North Belfast

A woman and her child have escaped injury after their home was attacked in north Belfast.

A brick was thrown at the window of the house in the York Road area shortly before 10.30pm on Thursday, 02 November.

Police said they are treating the attack as a "hate crime".

Damage was caused to the outer pane of glass, however no-one was injured in the incident.

PSNI Inspector Fairfield said: "Police are treating this incident as a hate crime and are appealing to anyone who was in the York Road area last night and who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact officers in Tennent Street on 101 quoting reference number 1493 02/11/17.Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Alliance Councillor Nuala McAllister condemned the attack.

She said: "This sort of behaviour is not representative of the majority in north Belfast, who want to see their community remain open, welcoming and inclusive.

"I wholeheartedly condemn those behind this attack, who put the lives of a woman and her young child at risk with their attempts at intimidation.

"Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home and as a community we must stand together and refuse to allow this type of behaviour to become the norm on our streets. I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible."
