Man Arrested For Drink Driving In Carrickfergus

A man has been arrested for drink driving in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

Officers attended the scene following reports of a one vehicle crash in the area on Monday, 20 November.

A spokesperson from the PSNI said the driver was "absolutely hammered".

Releasing images of the vehicle the spokesperson continued: "The male driver was arrested for driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, no licence and no insurance. He is now NOT enjoying bed and breakfast in custody tonight and will be charged to court when he wakes in the morning. I expect he will be in court just before Christmas. Thankfully he didn't crash into anyone else!"

The 51-year-old was arrested following a PSNI operation which also involved police in Sussex and Home Office Immigration officials in London on Monday, 19 February. Police Seize £10,000 Herbal Cannabis In L'Derry
Police in L'Derry have seized around £10,000 of herbal cannabis. The discovery was made after the police stopped a vehicle during a routine drink driving operation in the Mullenan Road area just after 8pm on Thursday. A 45-year-old man was breathalysed and arrested on suspicion of drink driving. They searched his vehicle and recovered the cannabis.

Police to keep pressure on drink drivers
Police are to keep the pressure on Northern Ireland’s drink drivers, Assistant Chief Constable Roy Toner has warned today. He was speaking as the final figures for this year’s Winter Anti-drink Driving Campaign revealed that 529 motorists were detected for drink driving, an increase of 51 on the same period last year.

Over 100 drink drivers have been caught each week during the current PSNI Christmas anti-drink driving campaign. A message saying 'we warned you' was issued by police as they released that 217 drivers had been detected as being over the limit throughout the first two weeks of their annual winter campaign.

Former university vice-chancellor admits drink driving charge
The former vice-chancellor of the University of Ulster has today pleaded guilty to charges of drink-driving. Professor Gerry McKenna, 52, did not appear at Coleraine Magistrates Court earlier today. His solicitor appeared on his behalf, confirming that he had admitted to the drink driving offence.

Five to appear in court in connecton with Bangor robbery
Five youths are to appear in Downpatrick Magistrates Court today charged in connection with the robbery of an off-licence in Bangor on Tuesday night. Two youths, who entered the premises on the Rathgael Road, assaulted two female members of staff before making off with a sum of money and alcohol.

Man Arrested Following Fatal Collision On A2 Carriageway Released
A man arrested in connection with a fatal collision on the A2 carriageway between Bangor and Holywood on Monday has been released on bail. The 33-year-old was questioned on suspicion of dangerous driving after a 75-year-old woman was killed in the crash near to the Devil's Elbow. He has been released pending further enquiries.

Teen Road Victim Named
The teenage victim of last night's fatal Co Down road accident has been named. Just 19-years-of-age, she was Danielle Houston from the Kinallen area. It is believed the victim was the driver of the only vehicle involved in the first of two overnight Irish road fatalities.

Road Safety Drive As Booze Laws Revised
The drink-drive limit is to be almost halved for most drivers under the biggest shake-up in the law for 40 years and random breath testing will also enforce the tough new limits.
